I don’t understand why the United States has abused it’s “sole super power” status since the fall of the Soviet Union. For whatever reason we did, I defy anyone to truthfully say that America is better off since we turned our diplomacy over to the defense department and broker diplomacy through the notion of force.

As I commented when the hack first happened, there is no incentive for Equifax to care about you in this situation. You aren’t their customer. I am no fan of government control, but this seems to be a case where they should be involved. Not to control the marketplace but to establish rules for tort law so that you can hold the Equifaxes of the world accountable.

We somehow want to negotiate for what is in our best interests, but won’t recognize that other countries want to do the same thing. What used to be called a “win-win”. We used to use diplomats to discuss foreign policy. For the last 26 years we’ve been using the Department of Defense. Perhaps it’s time for diplomacy again.
